How to Use SQLWays Wizard in Expert Mode

For more than 20 years of tool development history, a huge number of options and features have been added to the tool, using which you can improve the conversion result. By default, we have hidden most of these options from clients to make it easier for beginners to navigate. However, when you enable expert mode in the GUI, most of the settings become available.

In the Default mode of the tool you can use and specify limited set of options that are necessary to run the migration process. All the additional options that help to tune the migration process in an individual way are hidden.

Expert mode shows all the options in graphical user interface version. It also allows to use options that will help you to tune some specific cases and features that are required only for your migration process.

So to use the tool in Expert mode you need to switch on the checkbox 'Expert Mode' at the left lower corner of tool. Like it is done on the screenshot:

For example, the “Conversion Options” page in Default mode is quite simple with no additional options:

But the same page in Expert mode stores a lot of options:

We recommend to use the tool in default mode!

So only if you need to use some specific features of the tool or have some peculiar requirements in your migration project, and you are sure that a required option can be found in Expert mode, then use Expert mode in SQLWays Wizard tool.

But even expert mode allows to view 10 percent of all the settings. In the sqlways_db.ini file located in the project directory, you can find hundreds of other options. Each of them is located in its own section - for example the section [DATA] contains all options regarding data, [POSTGRE] section consists of the PostgreSQL options as a target.

You can find information about all the options here.
