ODBC Connection Tuning

For DB2 Mainframe

Using DB2 Connect Personal Edition

To create ODBC connect to AS/400 or OS390, please fulfill the following steps:

1) Install “DB2 Connect Personal Edition” from IBM site.

2) Run the “Configuration Assistant” tool and choose “Add Database Using Wizard…” menu.

Then setup your settings to connect to DB2 AS/400 or z/OS.

3) At the first step “Source”, we need to select “Manually configure a connection to a database”

4) At the next step “Protocol”, please choose TCP/IP, and that the database physically resides on a host or OS/400 system

5) At the “TCP/IP” step provide host name or IP address and click “Next”

6) At the “Database” step, provide database name and alias and click “Next”

7) At the “Data Source” step, please check “Register this database for CLI/ODBC” and provide ODBC Connection name and click “Next”

8) At the “Node Options” tab, specify Operating System and click “Finish” tab:

9) In the pop-up window, please specify “Test Connection” button:

10) Select “ODBC” and click “Test Connection” button:

11) Thus, if all the credentials have been entered correctly you will see a message on the “Result” that says “ODBC Connection Tested Successfully”, the way it is shown on the screenshot:

If the connection failed, please check the details you have entered.

12) Then run SQLWays Wizard and select ODBC connection.

Using DB2 iAccess

To create ODBC connect to AS/400 or OS390, please fulfill the following steps:

1) Install the “DB2 iAccess”.

2) Go to the “ODBC Administrator”. If you are using the 32-bit version of SQLWays on the 64-bit machine, you need to use the 32-bit “ODBC Administrator” (you can find it here c:\Windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe). The ODBC Data Source Administrator window is displayed.

3) Click the “Add” button. The “Create New Data Source” dialog is displayed, enabling you to add a new DSN.

4) Select the “iSeries Access ODBC Driver” and click “Finish” button

Then setup еру settings to connect to DB2 AS/400 or z/OS.

5) At the “General” tab, please enter the ODBC Connection Name and the IP address of the system.

6) At the “Server” tab, please select SQL Naming Convention and provide default SQL Schema or Library and click “Apply”:

7) Run Wizard and select ODBC connect.

For DB2 Linux, Unix, Windows version

To create ODBC connect to DB2 LUW, please fulfill the following steps:

1) Install “IBM Data Server Client” from IBM site.

2) Run the “ODBC Data Source Administration” utility and click “Add” button:

3) Choose the IBM DB2 ODBC Driver:

4) Specify Data source name and click “Add” button:

5) Specify User name and password that will be used to connect to DB2 database at the “Data Source” tab:

6) At the “TCP/IP” tab provide the credentials to connect to the database, like db name, db alias, host and a port:

7) Then click “OK” and you will see new Data Source created for DB2 database:

This Data source should be used in SLQWays Wizard tool to connect to the DB2 database.
